我想为我的朋友从源代码编译 Nano。

我已经在我所有的计算机上成功编译了它，他也有 Linux Mint 18.1。

我不知道为什么；或者更好地说，根据此配置消息，我不知道他的系统中缺少什么 UTF-8 支持：

看来您需要安装libncursesw5-dev和/或libslang2-dev；根据配置日志，这就是缺少的内容。
