何时使用 \mbox 或波浪线来表示必须连在一起的单词

我是 La Tex 新手，不知道什么时候该使用波浪号或\mbox？波浪号禁止换行， 也禁止换行\mbox，那么什么时候该使用其中一个？例如，我应该使用：

\mbox{words to kept together} 

或者，

 words~to~be~kept~together

可能还有其他原因，但我相信 a 给出的空间~可以像行中的其他空间一样拉伸或收缩，而 an\mbox给你一个固定的框，具有固定的空间。

用 连接的单词~仍可以用连字符连接，但用 an连接的单词\mbox则不能。
