ping(1)检查网络连接（它向目标发送 ICMP ECHO-REQUEST，并等待响应；请注意，一些完全无知的网络“管理员”会阻止 ICMP，即使主机可访问，您也不会得到答案）。

DNS（即host(1)或dig(1)结果）检查主机名的名称服务器是否可访问并回答。

它们是完全独立的，名称服务器通常运行在不同的机器上，RFC 甚至要求将数据的副本保存在不同网络上的至少两台服务器上。因此，当 DNS 应答时，主机可能会关闭，或者无法访问。或者反过来。
